Itinerary

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Carlisle, arriving late afternoon at the hotel for a four night stay.

Days 2 to 4 We have included the following excursions:

  • You will travel into Scotland to visit Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate. Home to the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry and his ancestors for over 400 years. Enjoy an included guided tour of the castle. There are 40 acres of gardens including tranquil woodlands, rose gardens, borders, and more. You will stop at Dumfries to obtain lunch before visiting Annandale Distillery where they use traditional methods to manufacture cask single malt whisky. Take a tour of the facility, learning about the production process and as a memento of the tour, you will receive a gift pack containing an Annandale Whisky glass and a mini bottle of Annandale Whisky to enjoy at home.

  • You will travel the short distance to visit Roman Vindolanda, one of the best-preserved Roman forts and museums on the Hadrian’s Wall. Also on this site is the Roman Army Museum where you will learn what life was like for a soldier guarding the wall on Rome’s Northern frontier. Returning to Carlisle for some free time.

  • A scenic drive into the Lake District to the pretty town of Keswick on the banks of Ullswater. The capital of the North Lakes, Keswick has a range of shops, galleries and interesting places to explore. In the afternoon travel to Glenridding to board the lake ‘steamer’ for a leisurely cruise on the lake to Pooley Bridge where you re-join the coach and return to Carlisle.

Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
