Itinerary

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Newton Aycliffe, County Durham and the hotel for a four night stay.

Days 2 to 4 We have included the following excursions:

  • Morning visit to the city of Durham with free time to explore its independent shops or visit the world-famous Durham Cathedral and obtain lunch. You will return to the hotel for an early dinner and refreshen up before heading to Bishop Auckland where you can take your seat to watch the Kynren – an epic tale of England – This 90 minute spectacular open-air show begins at dusk and ends in starlight and takes the audience on a journey through 2,000 years of British history, myth and legend. A cast and crew of 1000 bring epic dance routines, re-enacted battle scenes, flamboyant special effects, stunning pyrotechnics and an original soundtrack all of which will take your breath away. After the show you will return to the hotel.

          NB: Appropriate dress for the weather is recommended. Umbrellas are not permitted due to viewing restrictions.
          No food or drink permitted and no large bags and all are subject to security checks. This is an open- air performance   
          commencing at 20.30 hours.

  • An excursion to Beamish – The Living Museum of the North, a working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Costumed folk bring to life the Town, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Old Hall. Ride on a tram, catch a lesson in the village school, go underground at a real coalmine and sample the tasty treats in Herron’s bakery, Davy’s fried fish and chips and the infamous sweetshop.

  • Travel to Raby Castle, one of England’s finest medieval castles. A very impressive fortress standing proud, with a history of almost a thousand years. Also included is a visit to the High Force Waterfall, on the Estate and approx. a 30 minute drive. It is one of the most impressive waterfalls in England. The River Tees has been plunging into the gorge for thousands of years. Take the circular walking route to the viewing platform down to the water’s edge.

Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.

This hotel dates to 1693, a Jacobean manor house that retains many of its original features and set in 150 acres of woodland. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, WiFi, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities.
