Itinerary

Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey to Folkestone and the channel tunnel crossing to Calais. On arrival you will travel to La Coupole, a huge underground bunker built as a base to launch V2 rockets against London during WW2 before continuing to Chateau Tilques for a three night stay.

Day 2 Today you will travel along the Opal Coast, first stop is at Cap Gris Nez, the closest point of France to England, which offers views across the English Channel and also the White Cliffs of Dover on a clear day. You continue along the coast to Boulogne-Sur-Mer for a visit and an early lunch. Afterwards travelling along the coast by way of Le Touquet before returning to the hotel for your included afternoon tea.

Day 3 You will travel to Saint-Omer, where you will discover the attractive town centre with its numerous and impressive 17th century houses and buildings, many in the Flemish style typical of this region. You will then enjoy lunch in a nearby restaurant before taking a vintage railway journey to see the Aa Valley from the window of either a 1950’s Picasso train, or from the window of the ‘Caravelle’ a train from the 1970’s.

Day 4 After breakfast, depart the Chateau and travel to the fortified town of Bergues, surrounded by ramparts and canals and dominated by its 50 bell belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a stop before returning to Calais for the return journey home.

Built in 1891 on the ruins of a 17th century manor house and located in Tilques. This chateau offers an authentic charm of the French countryside. All bedrooms are ensuite. Restaurant (located in the old 17th century outbuildings), buffet breakfast room, bar, spa and indoor swimming pool. NB: There is not a lift. NB: The hotel has rooms in the main chateau and also rooms in the Pavilion Park.
