Day 1 Early morning departure for Dover and the crossing to Calais. You will then travel through France to Forbach for an overnight stop.
Day 2 Continuing the journey on into Austria, to the medieval city of Feldkirch and to the hotel for a five night stay. On arrival you will have a welcome drink and be given information about the area.
Day 3 Your journey today will take you to the Engadin, the cradle of ski resorts and also a sunny high valley in the Southern Alps. The Grisons is the largest of the 22 Swiss Cantons with 150 valleys. You will travel over the Julier Pass, to reach the Engadin region, and visit the most famous spot in the Alps – St Moritz. Continuing over the Bernina Pass to Tirano in Italy where you will board the highlight of your journey – the panoramic carriages of the Bernina Express. Travelling over the Bernina Pass at 2253m, witnessing the most magnificent stretch over the Albula Pass to Tiefencastel, where the coach will be waiting to pick you up and return to Feldkirch.
Day 4 A day at leisure in Feldkirch. Explore this medieval city with an included tour guide, roaming the narrow alleyways and squares and visiting the exciting museum at the Schattenburg, which towers over the town. Afterwards, you can visit one of the many cafés, go shopping or walk up the Ardetzenberg and visit Feldkirch’s alpine zoo.
Day 5 Today you will travel past Lake Walen to Lake Lucerne, where the original first cantons of the Swiss Confederation are located. You will make a stop in Altdorf and learn about the home of William Tell before continuing to Andermatt to board the Glacier Express to Chur. This incredible journey on one of the most famous railways in the world will remain in your memory forever. The views from Oberalp Pass and the Rhine Gorge will keep you fascinated. The coach will meet you in Chur for the journey back to the hotel, by way of Leichenstein for a short stop.
NB: Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a specific route or train for this journey. While we endeavour to secure passage on the Glacier Express, high demand often presents challenges in doing so. Consequently, it's possible that we may be rerouted to a regional train.
Day 6 The outing today will lead you to neighbouring Germany. Through the hilly Bregenzerwald, you will arrive at the German Alpenstraße. A street passing by impressive lakes and mountains, past Oberstaufen and Immenstadt to the city of Füssen. Here you will visit Hohenschangau Castle, a stunning castle with stunning views After a tour of the castle and some free time in Füssen, you will return to Feldkirch by way of Kempten and Bregenz.
Day 7 Sadly it is time for you to depart Austria for the journey back into France and to Forbach for your overnight stop.
Day 8 After breakfast, depart the hotel to commence the homeward journey.
