Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north and to Newcastle for a five night stay.
Days 2 to 5 We have included the following excursions:
• A visit to Alnwick Castle home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, which offers history on a grand scale, with sumptuous state rooms filled with one of the country’s finest private art and furniture collections. This was also the film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts. Afterwards explore the Alnwick Gardens with one of the largest collections of European plants in striking geometric beds.
• Follow the coastal route to Seahouses for a 90 minute cruise to the Farne Islands, with its grey seal colony (subject to weather conditions). Afterwards re-join coach and travel to Bamburgh Castle where you will explore the extraordinary grounds and staterooms which covers nine acres of the UK’s best-loved coastline and 150 feet above magnificent Bamburgh beach.
• A visit to Beamish, a world-famous open-air museum, telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820’s, 1900’s 1940’s and 1950’s. See how families lived and worked in the years leading up to the First World War, explore the colliery, discover life on the Home Front during WW2 and look out for the Land Girls. Visit beautiful Pockerley Old Hall’s new and old houses, take a ride on the tramway and partake in delicious snacks, cakes and drinks.
• A free day in Newcastle or join your driver for a trip to Hexham for the morning. Filled with winding streets with Hexham Abbey at the hub, plenty for you to see and do.
Day 6 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
