Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Dover for the sea crossing to Calais. On arrival you will travel along the coast to Ostend for a four night stay.
Day 2 After an early lunch, travel to Zonnebeke where you will visit the large UK and Commonwealth Cemetery at Tyne Cot, followed by the nearby Memorial Museum Passchendaale, complete with reconstructed trenches and museum telling the story of the First World War. Then to Ypres with time to explore at leisure – why not visit the excellent and moving ‘In Flanders Field’ Museum. You will have plenty of time to obtain dinner before attending The Last Post, the traditional final salute to the fallen. This happens every evening at exactly 20.00 hours under the Menin Gate Memorial. A very moving moment. Afterwards you will return to Ostend.
Day 3 Free day to explore Ostend, take stroll along the spacious promenade, do some shopping or relax on the gorgeous wide sandy beach. You could also visit the Mercator, Fort Napolean, The Provincial Domain Atlantikwall Raversyde, a unique natural area located close to the sea and is home to a rescue centre for birds and wild animals.
Day 4 Today you will visit picturesque Ghent, for free time to stroll around old squares and along the streets enjoying the different architectural styles. See the Belfry, St Bavo’s Cathedral, the Castle of the Count and the famous Graslei with its many canal side cafés and restaurants. You could take a boat trip along the canal or visit the old meat hall, now housing shops and cafés.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
